Aurora Inn

Aurora Inn (315/364-8888)--15 units. Built in 1833, the inn has been at the center of the Aurora community since its opening, attracting such notable guests as Robert Frost and Norman Mailer. The building underwent extensive expansion in 1881 when a rear wing and two-story piazza were added, then again in 1958 when a dining room, terrace and bar were added. Given to Wells College in 1943, the inn is set on the shore of Cayuga Lake, allowing guests to appreciate the area's natural beauty from within their rooms as well as outside on the lawn. Rooms--from standard accommodations with king- and queen-size beds to spacious suites complete with libraries, fireplaces and comfortable seating--range from $75 to $135; all have private baths. Conference and banquet facilities are available, too. Located in the heart of Aurora on Route 90, it's just a short drive from Ithaca.
